Larkspur

Welcome to Larkspur

A family-friendly neighborhood immersed in the lush foliage of Mount Tamalpais

Only 30 minutes north of San Francisco, and nestled at the base of Mount Tamalpais, the vibrant city of Larkspur is known for its breathtaking views and rich cultural history. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Larkspur’s downtown district is replete with an abundance of art galleries, theaters, boutiques, and restaurants. The area’s peaceful residential streets are lined with inviting homes ranging in architectural styles, like Craftsman and Victorian. By virtue of its proximity to the freeway and the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, Larkspur residents reap the rewards of a convenient suburban lifestyle and a painless commute into the city.

With Mount Tamalpais and the Pacific Ocean just a stone’s throw away, Larkspur residents lead an active lifestyle supported by an abundance of outdoor amenities. Whether it is a relaxing bike ride through Dolliver Park or a challenging hike through one of the many scenic trails at the Baltimore Canyon Preserve, Larkspur is replete with opportunities to enjoy the stunning natural wonders of Northern California.

Residents of Larkspur get their retail therapy at Marin Country Mart, an open-air shopping village hosting an abundance of boutiques, salons, restaurants, and fitness centers. Farmshop, for example, is known for its luxurious ambiance and gourmet Italian cuisine. Boasting a state-of-the-art pizza oven and an impressive hand-sculpted bar, Farmshop is sure to delight all the senses. In addition to the usual retail and dining amenities Marin Country Mart offers, it also distinguishes itself with a variety of community events for the whole family to enjoy—including a weekly farmer’s market and recurring concerts for kids

The bustling heart of Larkspur’s historic downtown district is Magnolia Avenue, a charming street tucked into the beautiful mountains that characterize the region. One of the many treasures found on Magnolia Avenue is the historic Lark Theater. Larkspur residents are extremely proud to have prevented the theater from being torn down, and thanks to their efforts, its 1936 Streamline Modern style has been preserved with great care.

Also found on Magnolia Avenue is the extremely popular restaurant, Picco. Famous for its unique blend of Italian and Californian flavors, Picco’s menu offers a variety of delectable pasta, pizzas, cocktails, and more. For those seeking a quicker bite, Equator Coffee is a cozy little spot with a unique theme. Dedicated to “a handful of inventive cyclists that began modifying road bikes to traverse Mt. Tam's trails,” the cafe proudly pays homage to the local origins of mountain biking.

Due to the excellent reputation of the Tamalpais Union High and Larkspur-Corte Madera school districts, families are attracted to living in Larkspur.
