Mill Valley

Welcome to Mill Valley

A vibrant and bustling mountain village just a stone's throw away from San Francisco

Tucked under the redwoods along the base of Mount Tamalpais and the coast of the Pacific Ocean, Mill Valley is renowned throughout the Bay Area for its abundance of natural wonders. This vibrant mountain village, named after an old sawmill from the 1800s, boasts a variety of stunning and unique properties, including mountainside estates, rustic hunter’s cabins, and centrally located luxury condominiums. With San Francisco, Oakland, and Silicon Valley just a stone’s throw away, Mill Valley residents reap the rewards of easy access to the city and a relaxed, nature-immersed atmosphere.

Mill Valley residents are known to lead active lifestyles saturated with the endless pleasures of fresh mountain air and postcard-worthy surroundings. Whether it is a long hike under the generous shade of the redwood trees at Muir Woods or an adventurous mountain bike excursion through the winding trails of Mt. Tamalpais State Park, there is never a shortage of ways to connect with mother nature. Mill Valley also plays host to a variety of outdoor community events, including the oldest trail race in America. Known as the Dipsea Race, this famous competition has challenged participants to traverse the summit of Mount Tamalpais for over 100 years!

The area’s casual atmosphere is especially palpable at the Mill Valley Depot. Conveniently located in the town center, this spacious plaza is a meeting ground for all generations and a jumping-off point toward one of the many trails of Mount Tamalpais. Within walking distance, locals enjoy the many engaging concerts offered by the Sweetwater Music Hall. Additionally, The Throckmorton Theater offers recurring concert series, plays, and an annual summer camp for children. Those with a proclivity for the cinema may also attend the Mill Valley Film Festival, an 11-day showcase of internationally acclaimed films. For a scrumptious and locally-sourced meal, residents frequent Watershed—a rustic eatery built in the original sawmill of Mill Valley and immersed in the lush foliage of Mount Tamalpais.

As if the neighborhood’s breathtaking beauty and relaxed atmosphere weren't enough, Mill Valley also benefits from an excellent school system. Tamalpais High School, for example, has been the recipient of the “California Distinguished School Award” on multiple occasions. In addition to the acclaimed public schools that serve Mill Valley, residents also have multiple private school options—including Marin Horizon School and Greenwood School.
